For the Player Who Wants to Improve

Two of our top players are featured in the March 2007 issue of the ADBL's Bridge Bulletin, see page 29-31. Auctions by Marilyn Garcia and Spike Lay on a number of hands  are compared against another pair. Extremely interesting.

Daytona Metropolitan has an attractive schedule of special games this month.

Tuesday, March 13, 9:30 AM, is a Club Championship game--Extra points!

Friday, March 16, 1:30 PM, will be a Club Championship game--more masterpoints. This is our 0-999 game.

Friday, March 16, 7:00 PM. Our Friday night Swiss game will be a Membership game, which pays extra masterpoints. Spike Lay will be directing the game, and as a special treat his mother, Mrs. Jewel Lay, will prepare one of her fabulous dinners for a 6:00 PM serving. We ask that you put your name on the list, so she'll know how many to expect. If you want to help, please bring a dessert to share.

Monday, March 26, 1:30 PM, is a Club Championship game. We have two sections--0-299 and Open, so all come and play.

Thursday, March 29, Annual Recognition Day AND Club Championship!. We'll have a party to recognize all our members who made Life Master or reached any other new level during the past year.We also want to honor the many volunteers who help make the club so strong. Come and be honored and honor your friends. We'll have a super lunch arranged by our wonderful Judy McCall at 12:30, and we will have a two sections of play--Limited and Open. Do get your name on the sign up list, so we have an idea how many for food.

Tuesday, April 3, 1:30 PM--A Handicapped Pro-Am game. Watch The Breaking News on our web site, www.daytonabridge.org, for more details. We have had Pro-Am games in the past, but handicapping is new. We will have handicap and non-handicap winners. This time you'll draw for your partner, so call the club and sign up for it. This is for players of all levels.

Now comes a very special and heartwarming item. Earl and Maggie Brown live in St. Augustine, but often play with us. Two years ago Maggie had a very serious medical matter that needed attention. It is wonderful to say that she is now back at the bridge table. A few weeks ago Earl and Maggie came to play and brought two beautiful and delicious cakes for all to enjoy. I asked Earl what the occasion was, and his own words say it so well:

"I can't tell you how much your club has meant to us in Maggie's recovery.  Many members of the club continually e-mailed me or sent Maggie cards wishing her well.  So the two cakes were to express our appreciation for all the club has done and continues to do in helping Maggie recover.  Maggie attributes her positive attitude going into surgery to all the prayers members of your club said for her....So Thank you all, again."

And we thank you, Earl and Maggie, for bringing your joy and love to our club.

A good game to all.
