Results of DMBC Member Survey 2007

Board and Head Director Actions that are in Process

DMBC Members: Thank you for all that participated in the recent Membership Survey.  85 of you responded with very valuable input on how the club is doing and what we can do to make it better for you and friends. The “evaluation” of the directors, lessons, website, and newsletter were all very positive.  Here are some of the areas the Board and the Head Director (June Byrne) are taking action on based on your input:

What are your Board and Head Director (June Byrne) doing about the Survey Results?

  1. Action already taken to respond to the members who want to compete against skill levels closer to theirs (rather than higher level players playing in the Open games) by expanding the limited game on Tuesday Morning to 0-500 and Friday Afternoon to 0-1000 mps.
  2. Pro-Am Game will be reinstated soon. A Handicapping System sanctioned by the ACBL is being evaluated.
  3. A periodic two-session game with Lunch will be evaluated.
  4. A committee will be formed to evaluate a Mentoring Program
  5. More parties and member achievement recognition luncheons will be added in 2007.  A St Patrick Day party is being planned.
  6. Volunteers who help with preparing and serving food, and caddying will be awarded free plays
  7. More Team Games will be considered. The Board has already approved two Grand National Team Qualifying Games which have been very popular and FUN!
  8. Provide an incentive for new people moving into the area to join the club with six weeks of free play was approved by the Board.  Please let us know if you know of any recently moved-in persons.

Last Wednesday we had our Grand National Swiss Team game, and it drew a gathering of 22 tables!

The winning team had Bruce Ohmann, Joe Reeves, Spike Lay and Scott Weiss.

Second were Tina Ross, Emily Hugo, Karen Hanno and Marie Claire Hamel.

Tied for 3/4 were teams with Bernard Goldstein, LaVaughn Wiltgen,  Henry  and Joan Polowy; Robert Renuart, Mike Devine, John Layton and Sid Sandifer.

Fifth were Margery Cull, Mary Simpson, and Jim and Suzy Hagey.

Sixth place found Rita Carlin, Mary Lockwald, Ed Pantalone and Alice Flynn.

Here is a wonderful statistic. Seven of the teams were C strata, our newer players. Yet all of these 28 C players won masterpoints, and half their points were red. Our second place team, listed above, was a C strata team which beat out 20 other A, B and C teams! This is a wonderful endorsement of our teachers, our Easybridge program and the FREE lessons we offer before many of our games. Our lessons are presented regularly by Betty Bayard, June Byrne and Linda Miller with wonderful support by Betty Sandifer, Charlie Stinnett and Joe Reeves.

We are the only area bridge club to offer such an extensive learning program. That is why we have such strong players in our membership, why are newer players are reaching greater heights, and why the club motto is 'For the Player Who Wants to Improve'. What a wonderful club, and how fortunate we are to be a part of it.

Have a 70% game!

Two more of our game directors who graciously help with classes and lessons, and have done so for many years, are Peg Lupo and Pat Heading.

Our thanks to all who give their time and expertise for the benefit of the membership.

Max Bayard
