June Byrne, our
Head Director, is organizing a director-candidate course for players who wish
to become certified by the ACBL as Club Directors. Club Directors are eligible
to direct club games anywhere in the country, plus territories, and even on
cruise ships. Several of our members have directed bridge games on
cruises. Another benefit of becoming certified, even if one never actually
directs, is improvement as a bridge player simply by this detailed study of the
rules by which we all play.
One does not
have to have achieved a certain level of play to become a Club Director. There
are many very fine directors who are not Life Masters. If you are interested or
have questions, please call June at 672-3277, or email to: Junebyr@aol.com.
Accolades--Mary
Ann Echelberry became a Sectional Master; John Layton
is now a Life Master; Lynn Brown has earned the Silver Life Master award;
Jeanne Spletzer recently became a Bronze Life Master.
Congratulations to all!
Remember our new
point ranges for Tuesday morning, 0-499, and Friday afternoon, 0-999. Here is
the opportunity to play in more games.
Another
reminder--John Sterling is collecting data for an updated club directory.
First, if you have not yet verified data pertinent to you, please do so soon.
Second, if you do not wish your email address printed in the directory, please
so advise John, 677-0722.
Upcoming--February
5 - 10, all games will be rated as Sectional Tournaments at Clubs (STaC). This means you earn sectional-level silver points.
Hands are pre-dealt, and you will have hand records for post-game review. Hand
records are a valuable tool for improving one's game.
Saturday, the
17th, and Wednesday, the 21st--both afternoon games will be Club
Championships with increased masterpoints for all
strata.
Make a Grand
Slam!
